Welcome to TheBitBlock!

You may have noticed by now that WiiFolder has moved on to a brand new name. Allow me to welcome you to TheBitBlock! After over 3 years of evolving and reaching for higher levels of polish and quality it’s about time we usher in a new name! TheBitBlock will continue on with the type of content WiiFolder offered, and as always we’ll continue to introduce new types of coverage. I’m happy to announce that in addition to Wii related coverage we will also be covering the Nintendo 3DS come it’s release. The concept behind this new name is based on how the site seems to have evolved into being about core video features which in a way almost act as sides or walls of the site. With that in mind it reminded me of a block and how it has many sides. It was clear that could work very well in our new title. The word “Bit” in our new name is related to the fact that I don’t want us to just focus on the big main video features and never put up smaller types of video content. I hope you all like the name change and look forward to what the site continues to offer!

  1. the bit block sounds more of like a feature not a site but i understand why its called that and also are you going to do regular DS coverage before the 3DS comes out?!

    1. Nope sorry, no DS coverage.

      1. that stinks but thats alright at least we still get the Fold, Pipeline, and video tours.

    2. I thought the same thing.

The Bit Block sounds like a feature and is a horrible name for the whole site and seems like an attempt at banking through the incoming hype and attention surrounding the 3DS.

You’ve stated your dislike towards handhelds before and now because a monetary opportunity has presented itself you have decided to jump on the band wagon.

Good luck recording footage from a hand held device as well.
Can’t wait for the shaky cam footage!

      1. Back in about 1920 a device known as a tripod was invented. It screws into a camera’s base to hold it still and allow you to aim it in any direction as well as increase and decrease the height of the camera. Crazy, no?

It’s amazing what an HD 1080p camera, a tripod and a well setup Nintendo 3ds can do.

        1. Sweet, can’t wait for “stable” “off-screen” 2D footage of a hand held who’s innovative function is stereoscopic 3D.

And btw, even with your snarky remark about the tripod, you are forgetting that you still need to hold the 3DS to play it.

          Lol..
I hope your cash in attempts fail.

          1. Not sure if you realize this or not but there is literally no possible way to demonstrate the 3D aspect of the Nintendo 3DS on camera or direct feed. Not even Nintendo themselves can do this.

As for this ‘cash in’ stuff you’re claiming I honestly have no clue what you’re talking about.

          2. Who says you need to hold it? Can’t the tripod hold it and just not film your hands?

          3. plus go to youtube and type in ds footage, it is possible to film a ds

          4. False.
If you record with 2 cameras at once, you could easily make video that would simulate the 3D effect.

It would require red/cyan glasses or
the viewer to utilize “cross-eye” 3D, but it is in fact “literally possible.”

          5. If it is so easy then why didnt nintendo do that at e3

          6. over time, you all will adapt to the name change.

          7. Nintendo didn’t do that at E3 (or any other media event) because they wanted to emphasize the fact that you don’t need glasses to enjoy the 3D. If you’re just showing off the games, it really doesn’t matter as much.

Of course, red/cyan and cross-eyed 3D aren’t exactly pleasant, so I don’t foresee Josh using those techniques. But there’s nothing stopping him from doing it if he wants.

        2. If people never knew about tripods (or those tripod like thing which… wait! It’s called a unipod!) then what did people think the hole in the camera on the bottom was for?

Also the name of the new website is… ummm… uhhhhh… hmmmm… on a scale of 1 to 100 is about 89.98989899999999999173. Reminds me about the times that I been playing a NES which I don’t undersand because I have never played or own a NES!

      2. calm down, it’s just a name change

      3. Dude Gamebit… you’re being a complete jerk.
And not an informed jerk either, just a jerk.
Someone who jumps to conclusions and puts blames on things because they’re suddenly offended by an assumption.

How is “TheBitBlock” a cash-in to the 3DS? Does the 3DS say it’s all about the Bits? …how about instead think about this: Bit. Such as 8-bit, 16-bit, etc.
As in: How people measured their graphics back in the day, encouraging the idea of RETRO games. Something that can relate to ALL CONSOLES.

        I personally, like the name.
And you know what? If the next Nintendo console comes out, this title would definitely fit it instead of “Wii Folder” as it won’t be a Wii anymore.

… and the whole “Two cameras”-thing is in effect in other sites, but it certainly doesn’t give the same effect as the 3DS.
Quit with your 3DS-hating and name-hating. I’d say calm down and enjoy the show either way, but I doubt anyone would benefit from you being around the new BitBlock.

Good luck with your assumptions and ridiculous groundless accusations. (and btw: if you think up a reason of how the bit block associates with the 3ds, you’re trying too hard to be angry)

  2. Why did you change the page?
    Sorry bad english :)

    1. Facebook doesn’t support renaming pages.

      1. Thats not what I asked

        1. I think he changed it so he could claim it as a bussiness but correct me if im wrong.

          1. I think it’s because he’s not only going to do wii coverage when the 3DS is released, but you’re idea may be right. Heck, it could be both

      2. you can change the facebook name if you go onto info and next to name of group it says edit edit this too your new name and voila

  3. I believe that the pipeline would have been a more suitable name….. with the news service being renamed the bit block. Because the bitblock just dosent really seem like a website name…

  4. wow that is not really a good name, I’ll still watch but I thought you would have come up with something better.

  5. good name still all the normal features to the wiifolder (old name)

  6. It works. :) But the name doesn’t really matter that much to me.

  7. El Presidente

I like the new name. It has nice ring to it. Plus the word “bit” makes me think of old school video games for some reason =)

  8. IceTitanPrime

Really like it! But I couldn’t find the Facebook fan page…

    1. The like button on the sidebar has been updated to point to the new page.

  9. mariogamer204

That name sounds like an old NES game.(good thing)

  10. I prefer WiiFolder.

  11. Hi, I don’t really like the new name.

But when are you guys going to make your YouTube page? Or, are you still going to use WiiFolder?

  12. Does this name make any sense?

  13. PlacatedTurtle

The vertical line at the right hand side of the ‘block’ seems to be at the wrong angle and irritates me every time I see it.
    Other than that, like it.

    1. The verticle line is at the wrong angle! Who ever designed this is not very smart at math. It needs to be a perfect cube.

      1. The Block is being viewed in a perspective angle and not a frontal view. Thus is why it’s not a straight line on the right side of it.

        1. But then the vertical line on the left side, the black one, should be at an angle too. It doesn’t appear to be. Maybe it’s just an illusion though. Shapes like that can be tricky.

  14. Well if this means more videos then thank god.

  15. The new name might seem to cover more than just the Wii. I like the name, yet I miss the old one still.

  16. Will we see the new intro soon?

    1. Seen it. Nice one!

  17. I’m not to crazy about the name but I will still come on the site. The name doesn’t mean that much to me as long as everything else stays the same.

  18. I prefered the name Wiifolder, but the new name is ok.
and after all, it’s still the same site, right?

  19. Will you be able to capture the 3D in the 3DS or will it just look like a regular DS?

    1. There’s no way to stream 3d video online like that, so the 3ds will have to be covered without being able to show the 3d.

  20. Joshy – Good luck with your new site name. You produce excellent content. Keep up the great work and don’t let the haters get you down!

  21. you seem to be gettin some hate about the namechange and 3DS coverage.

I say, keep up the awesome work!
because of you I bought Dewy’s Adventure!
    many thanks for convincing me!

  22. Sir Enob Mort

Some people might not like the name now, but they will adjust to it. When the Nintendo “Revolution” changed to “Wii,” everyone made fun of it’s name; but later, people accepted it and it’s become very popular. Personally, I like “The BitBlock,” and I know you’ll continue to make great videos.

P.S. I also like the new intro theme.

  23. Nice name Josh

  24. ARE YOU GONNA DELETE WIIFOLDER VIDEOS

    1. no why would he do that? lol, he needs to keep the videos so new ppl can see them

  25. it’s never an easy task to rename a site, let alone please everyone once you take the plunge, but good luck with the new name and site!

  26. Happy to see that your website is evolving. Just some constructive criticism about the new logo. the 3-D block in the background doesn’t mesh well with the straight bar that reads “all sides lead to fun”. To me it makes the block…not look like a block. :-)

  27. I wonder if I should rename WiiFolder forums now…?

  28. bitblock sucks

    lol i prefferde wii folder

  29. Terrible name change dude. Blech!

  30. THATS AWESOME THAT YOUR GONNA DO 3DS COVERAGE NOW!

I kinda though you didn’t like Ds at all because you never really mention anything about it so I just assumed…

  31. Woah my gosh, seriously dudes, this page has got a few comments on that are just rude and frankly, I can’t believe that people don’t have the tact to be a little more polite!
I think this site is great and I like the name change, I wonder how many of you guys have a website which is as successful as this one? ;)
